One of the Oldest Log Cabins in the World?
If you head a few hours north of Albany to Willsboro, NY—tucked in the beauty of the Adirondacks—you’ll find the Adsit Cabin, which earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places back in 1992.
Who is Samuel Adsit?
Samuel Adsit, a Revolutionary War veteran and a skilled builder, constructed the cabin in the late 1700s. Around 1790, he settled in Willsboro Point and built a home for his small family of 16.
The cabin stayed in the Adsit family for generations, standing the test of time.
Eventually, a man named Dr. Earl Van DerWerker bought the property to turn it into a summer camp. But in the process of tearing some buildings down, sources say he uncovered this historical treasure.
Open to the Public
Now the cabin belongs to the Town of Willsboro and is open to the public.
Visitors can step inside and check out some of the original farming tools and furnishings. It’s not just a building, it’s a hands-on time machine, and one of the coolest historical spots Upstate has to offer.
So, if you're into actual living history, the Adsit Cabin is a must-see.
