A Unique Sundae Made in Upstate New York Could be Kind of a ‘Big Dill’
Would This Pickle Your Fancy?
Believe it or not, a pregnant craving did not inspire an unusual ice cream sundae concoction in Upstate New York.
The owners of The Ice Burgh, an ice cream shop in Schoharie County, told us their unique new menu item started as a joke but got such a response they decided to put it on the menu. Would you try their Dill Pickle Sundae?
Some might say it's "dill-icious," and others may be too afraid to try it because they fear a "jarring" experience. Either way, social media (and some customers) seem to be enjoying a unique new sundae served at The Ice Burgh, a small mom-and-pop ice cream shop in Middleburgh.
Jarring Concoction
The Ice Burgh owners, Renee Schmidt and Steve Kowalski, weren't "gherkin" us around when they explained that their wild concoction is made with pickles, dill juice, and soft vanilla ice cream.
"We start with a few pickles in the bottom of the sundae cup, then add the soft vanilla ice cream, then more pickles, a little pickle juice, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry," Renee explained.
How Did They Discover this Dill-irious Idea?
"I stumbled across a picture of it online," she told us.
"I texted it to my staff as a joke, asking yes or no...(and)their responses were hysterical, so I said let’s go for it. I figured it would get my customers commenting on Facebook and Instagram, if nothing else. And it worked!"
In case you're wondering, the cost is the same as that of any of the sundaes they offer: a Baby $4.25, a Small $5.25, a Medium $6.00, and a Large $6.50.
Have Any Customers Tried It?
Renee told us they've had some customers come specifically to try it, and the response has been "really fun," although she admitted that they weren't selling many of them.
But that may change once the word gets out about this jar-dropping menu item.
"It’s brought a lot of laughs, if nothing else," she explained. Adding, "The few customers who have tried it said they liked it."
But what does Renee think of the Ice Burgh's Pickle Sundae?
"I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to!"
