Country legend Willie Nelson is approaching his 80th Birthday (April 30, 2013). It's no surprise he'll celebrate his big day rolling down the highway to the next show and enjoying the release of a new album Let's Face The Music And Dance.

Although the album is charming, featuring Willie's family and long time road band, it just doesn't move me the way his last album did. Through the years, dating back to Stardust, Nelson has had a passion for re-recording and reviving standards from all genres. Let's Face The Music And Dance is full of those great timeless recordings, penned by Iriving Berlin, Carl Perkins, Spade Cooley and others. The album is quite enjoyable and makes the perfect soundtrack to a lazy Sunday afternoon or a quiet dinner party.

However, if Willie Nelson fans are craving some newer music, my pick is his previous release Heroes. The album showcases Willie at his best! From the serious thought-provoking songs like 'Hero' and 'Just Breathe' to the fun side with 'That's All There Is To This Song' and 'Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die.' As usual, the Willie Nelson project is full of special guests including Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, Jamey Johnson, Billy Joe Shaver, Sheryl Crow, and sons Lukas and Micah Nelson.

I do love the fact that Willie Nelson has continued to make new music through the years, even knowing it won't be played on mainstream radio. I also credit his 2010 album titled Country Music as another one of my favorites. It's basically the 'Country' version of Let's Face The Music and Dance, covering Country Music standards like 'Pistol Packin' Mama' and 'Satisfied Mind.'
