Willie Nelson and Lionel Richie – Two Legends Nominated For 2012 CMA Awards
Last year I did an interesting article on how some big singers are no longer found on the list of the CMA award nominees. Artists who were once mainstays at awards shows - like Reba McEntire, George Strait, Tim McGraw, and Alan Jackson - find themselves booted out of the main categories, with the focus on the hot new talent of the day.
As I mentioned in last year's article, it's just the nature of the business. However, there is one category where we often see the legends break through- The Musical Event Of The Year! No doubt it's because most of the collaborations are with younger artists, but either way it's great to see a few legends make this category every year.
In 2012, Willie Nelson (79) and Lionel Richie (68) are the only two 'senior' artists nominated for a CMA (both in the Musical Event of the Year category). Meanwhile, Alan Jackson (54), pushing his way to 'legend' status, is also hanging on with his only nomination for a collaboration with Zac Brown.
Here's hoping at least one CMA Award goes to a legend this year!
