Who Had The Better Opening Weekend, The New York Mets Or Yankees?
I think the Mets had the slightly better opening weekend than the Yankees. It was a great opening for New York baseball. Both the Yankees and the Mets won their respective series as the Mets beat the Nationals in 3 out of 4 and the Yanks beat the Red Sox in 2 out of 3. It is always essential and important to get off on the right foot to start the long season. I also don't want to be a prisoner of the moment as there are 158 games left for the Mets, and 159 left for the Yankees. Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:
You can’t ask for a better start under new Manager Buck Showalter. The Mets who are without Jacob deGrom for at least four weeks, showed Mets fans they are more than capable of rallying the troops without the best pitcher in baseball. Last season the Mets went into the tank when deGrom went down. It was only the opening weekend but taking three out of four at Washington was impressive. The Mets were impressive on the mound, in the field, and at the plate. All the way around, it was great opening weekend.
Michael Johnson Jr and I had a discussion on the Yankees and Mets opening weekend earlier this morning. Below is our full conversation on this.
MJ seems to think Chris Bassitt could have an NL Cy Young type of a season. I agree the Mets starting pitching looked really good and much better than the Yankees after the first weekend. The Yankees bullpen is still superior however. Both teams looked really efficient offensively. Buck Showalter and Aaron Boone are both veterans and should lead their ballclubs to the postseason. While it is really early in the season, I can't wait to continue to watch both the Mets and the Yankees all season long here on Big Board Sports.
