As New York Yankee fans across the state celebrate their last second playoff birth into Tuesday's Wild Card game against the Boston Red Sox, that can be heard on the home of Yankee baseball, 104.5 FM WTMM, Met fans prepare for another overhaul. The unfortunate thing is that Met fans have choked on that last sentence countless times before. I know. Few things change in the world of Mets fans in October. Yes, the Amazin's have had seven playoff runs with two World Series rings in their 60 year history but the Yankees have won 8 World Championships in that time period and gone to the playoffs 29 times.

I use the Yankees as a reference because when you play professional sports in New York City, the "other" team is the barometer for success. Just ask the Jets, the Nets and the Islanders fans who they really measure their teams against. New York fans have watched dumpster fires ravage each of those franchises at one time or another. It's time that new Mets owner Steve Cohen changes the direction of his franchise and builds it for success, as his neighbors from the Bronx have done for decades.

Will Cohen part with his current President Sandy Alderson, who is the man in the organization that has added the most fuel to the Mets fire in the dumpster (see Mickey Callaway, Jared Porter and his latest wreck, Zach Scott)? I doubt it. Alderson was a key piece to Major League owners approving Cohen as an owner in the first place. With Alderson in place, even if Cohen says Sandy will only run the organizational part of the front office, will the baseball guru of lost cause franchises, Theo Epstein even be an option to take over the Mets operation? I doubt it but money talks and no one has more money than Steve Cohen. That is almost a literal statement. If Uncle Steve wants Theo, I am sure there is a price.

What happens if Epstein doesn't come? Then the Mets will have to ask permission from other owners to talk to their top talent executive candidates to fill Cohen's open position. Good luck with that. Let's make ourselves weaker and give the rich guy our best organizational minds. That's not happening without paying a steep price. Change is going to be costly.

The Mets are mess. ESPN's Buster Olney has said several times on The Drive with Charlie & Dan that employees of the organization say it is "more dysfunctional" than it was when Fred & Jeff Wilpon ran the circus. Wow! That is a damning statement from on of Major League Baseball's top TV analysts. One common denominator, Sandy Alderson. No one needs to go more. If Sandy stays buckle in for more of the same. Sorry Mets fans.
