The United States Postal Service (USPS) will implement new delivery standards to improve reliability nationwide starting next month.

Back in 2021, the USPS announced its 'Delivering For America' Plan to emerge from a "...financial and operational crisis." Parts of this extended plan include price adjustments to various postal services, taking advantage of higher package volume with the growth of online shopping, improving packaging and processing, and more.

The USPS says the plan also aims to create "...$36 billion in savings over 10 years from transportation, mail processing, and real estate cost reductions."

As part of this plan, the postal service recently announced new delivery standards that take effect next month.

USPS Reveals New 'Delivering For America' Service Standards

If you've ever been left wondering why that piece of mail you are expecting is taking so long to arrive, these new USPS standards could be the cure.

The United States Postal Service has announced its new delivery standards as part of its 'Delivering For America' plan to "enhance service reliability nationwide" while shortening delivery times for some products.

Here are the standards being implemented to create higher overall reliability:

  • All First-Class Mail to maintain 1-5 Day Delivery Standard: Delivery priority for 75% of packages will stay the same, 14% will be delivered faster, and 11% slower but all First-Class pieces will be delivered within the 1 to 5-day standard.
  • Delivery times for marketing mail, periodicals, and packages will be shortened
  • 2-3-Day Mail Delivery Within Local Regions/Area
  • All mail will benefit from more reliable service.

The USPS says none of these changes will change access to services available at your local post office and "user-friendly tools" will be on location for customers detailing the new delivery times.

The first phase of standards improvements will take effect on April 1st with a second phase beginning on July 1st. You can see the full rundown of mail standards adjustments here.
