Upstate New York Eatery Claims ‘Restaurant Of The Year’ Honors

There's no shortage of delicious and interesting culinary experiences throughout the Capital Region and beyond, but how many of them are considered a "bucket list" destination?

An esteemed restaurant located in Upstate New York was recently named to a prestigious list of "2024 Restaurants of the Year," in a nationwide poll of data gathered by USA Today.

"They’re the places we love — a mix of old, new, and in-between. They’re places with stories to tell, places that should be on your dining bucket list and, lest we forget, places serving delectable dishes we can’t stop talking about." USA Today

A total of 47 restaurants across the country made the USA Today list, and a big congratulations goes out to Redd Restaurant in Rochester, New York.  A true "destination restaurant' that's often visited by celebrities and esteemed chefs.

Owner Richard Reddington opened Redd, an upscale American-fare restaurant back in 2019. The menu was inspired by Reddington's passion for food and wine which he developed while traveling Europe as a young adult.

Over the years, Reddington perfected his craft while working in some of the world’s best kitchens, and their menu offers carefully charred wood-fired pizza, crispy wings, the freshest seafood, delectable desserts, and more.

How Was Redd Chosen?

A total of 47 restaurants made the list based on multiple criteria.  According to The USA Today, they needed to be "buzzy Instagram-worthy spots backed by award-winning chefs, tried-and-true small-town standbys, and pantheons of fine dining worthy of a foodie pilgrimage," and based upon the tremendous reviews, Redd is more than worthy.

Plethora of Glowing Reviews

Hundreds of foodies gave glowing Google reviews to Redd after their dining experience, including a woman named Ashely Freeman who wrote:

This is our favorite restaurant in Rochester. We’ve never had a bad meal here. The food is interesting and delicious...The staff is just phenomenal - kind and courteous and makes you feel like they’re genuinely happy you’re there. Redd is the restaurant we measure all others against.

Another 5-star review came from a recent diner named Cody Pionessa who wrote:

The whole meal was amazing front to back. The apps that we ordered, Pork Belly and Redd Wings were amazing and flavorful...The waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the wines and (her) recommendations were perfect. The main course was amazing...Would strongly recommend Redd’s to anyone looking to have an elevated and upscale meal.
