Friday, May 10, 2013 we invite all Country Music fans to join us at Brown's Revolution Hall for a great night of Country Dancing and Music to help the Rensselaer County Veterans.

I was honored to be asked to start the fun at 7pm with Country Dancing followed by some great live Country Music by Action/Action. Then, later in the night, Rock Music with the Big Red Nasty.

Frank Razzano of the Troy Uniformed Firefighters Association Local 86 invited us to be a part of the fun to help a great cause. We asked Razzano some questions about the big event.

Why do Firefighters organize 'Help Our Heroes' to help the Rensselaer County Veterans?

We are hosting Helping Our Heroes, because as Firefighters and Paramedics, we see firsthand how some Veterans suffer due to simple quality of life issues that many of take for granted, such as a well lit or easy to navigate home, or furniture items better suited for specific disabilities, and we want to help the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Members of our union, as well members of the Troy Retired Firefighters Association have agreed to match funds raised with donations of time, to help assist Veterans in our community to meaningful, tangible ways.

What are the biggest needs of the veterans?

After talking with many Veterans, the biggest problem facing many of them is the inability to find good jobs that offer living wages.

How can we help, besides attending the fundraiser on Friday, May 10 at Brown's Revolution Hall?

I can tell you from talking to Veterans personally, they genuinely appreciate when folks thank them for their service. Of course, if you are in a position to hire someone, consider the added experience and expertise a Veteran brings to the table, and consider hiring them. Also, if you have time, consider donating some time to help senior or disabled Veterans.

You can help the veterans by sharing and re-posting this article on your Facebook page.  Of course, you can help even more by joining us for a great night of Country Music and dancing at Brown's Revolution Hall, 417 River Street, in Troy on Friday, May 10, 2013 at 7pm. $7 donation requested per person.
