A Troy City School District bus driver is facing charges after attempting to lure a 14-year-old boy for sexual activity.

According to a report from Newschannel 13, the man facing charges is 52-year-old Troy resident, Michael Varian.  Varian is a Troy bus driver who drives for Star and Strand Transportation, which is one of the many companies contracted to deliver children safely to and from school by the Troy City School District.

Newschannel 13 is reporting that the man attempted to lure a 14-year-old boy into sexual activity via text messages but the messages were actually being received by an undercover cop who had been posing as the boy for weeks.

Police say Varian attempted to meet the boy at a location in Albany County and that’s when he was arrested.  According to the report, Varian faces at least 10 years and up to life in prison, a term of post-release supervision of at least 5 years and up to life, and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted.

Newschannel 13 received a statement from the Troy CSD expressing their concern over the issue and stating in part that "the parents/guardians of the Troy students on this driver’s routes are being notified, and this driver will no longer be transporting our students."
