I was born and raised in Upstate New York, Schenectady specifically, and I had a great upbringing. If you were to ask me about raising my potential kids in any other area, I would have no idea- until now.
Every school year teachers in New York state shell out a ton of their own money to make sure every student in their classroom has the supplies they need. Many teachers are unaware that there is a law that was passed that gives teachers a tax break to help them get most of that money back.
After five years of Common Core, the Board of Regents have heard the complaints and has decided that it needs some updating. They have met, discussed, and finally agreed on a new learning path and they're now calling it the Next Generation Learning Standards.
I know I can write in cursive but aside from signing my name and maybe on the sporadic check, I never use it. I never really thought it hurt to learn it but I guess there are schools in the Capital Region that don't teach it anymore and it's causing problems.
Social media can be a wonderful thing or it can be a way for people to express themselves under not so great of a light. I agree that social media use in children should be monitored but maybe this Ohio school went too far here.
