Many us have visited this popular and picturesque Capital Region hiking trail, but amidst concerns of safety, it's in jeopardy of not being open to the public come Memorial Day weekend.

The 2 mile hike known as Indian Ladder Trail inside Thacher Park has long been a place of interest for both nature lovers and history buffs, providing beautiful views of both the Hudson and Mohawk valleys but according to the Spotlight News, you may not be able to walk this trail again.

Nancy Ladd-Butz, a local hiker who was seriously injured by falling rocks as she walked the trail last July, filed a lawsuit against the state.  As a result, safety issues have been raised, and now park officials are deliberating what actions need to be taken to insure people's safety.  One of the things being discussed it to close the trail altogether.

More than 300,000 people visit Thacher Park every year. Last May, the state opened a brand new $4.3 million park center. It is not clear when officials plan to make an announcement about the trail’s future.
