Times Union Selling Land Once Rumored To Be Home For Cabela’s
A plot of land behind the Times Union building in Colonie that was once rumored to become the home of our own Cabela's hunting and fishing store is officially up for sale.
And if you love to hunt or fish, your first question is probably 'Is Cabela's now possibly coming to the Capital Region?' At this point, there is no evidence to support that. But, according to the Times Union, a plot of land that includes 6 vacant lots next to the Times Union in Colonie has been officially put up for sale by the Hearst Company, which owns the Times Union.
The Times Union says this is the same group of lots that were part of a development deal three years ago that was supposed to be the home of a 'large-sacle retail complex.' At the time it was rumored a Cabela's hunting and fishing store was supposed to be a part of that complex. That deal of course fell through and Hearst retained the land.
So now that the plots are officially up for sale for a cool $12 million, what could end up there? That remains to be seen, but we can keep our fingers crossed Cabela's comes back to the table. Of all the great retail outlets we have here in th Capital Region, Cabela's is the one giant we do have here. If you hunt, fish or love to cam it would be a welcome addition!
