The Greatest X-Mas Movie Ever Returns To Theaters
Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas is returning to theaters and the mere thought of this immediately puts me in the holiday spirit. Why? Because it's the greatest Christmas movie of all time, plain and simple.
I've already texted my sister Sherri and we're all in. Back in simpler times, before Disney ruled the world and before children's movies made a gazillion dollars through merchandising and stuff, us kids of the 80's had cuddly Emmett and Ma. And we didn't get to watch it on demand, we waited for it to come on HBO. Now it's coming to theaters, digitally remastered.
I will debate this one till I'm blue on the face and I won't give up till you quit. You can keep Elf, Home Alone, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and A Christmas Story (which is my second favorite, btw). But Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas is the greatest Christmas movie of all time.
The music. The sacrifice. Wendell. The River Bottom Nightmare Band. The heartache. The disappointment. The cute little pond they lived on. 'We're not birds, we're a jug-band!'
I could go on and on. Christmas classic.
According to Mentalfloss.com, more than 600 theaters across the country will be showing the movie with screenings on Monday, December 10 (4 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and Sunday, December 16 (1 p.m. and 4 p.m.).
