The Cadillac Three on Their Headlining Tour: ‘It’s Been Pretty Impressive So Far’
After years of serving as an opening act, the Cadillac Three are currently topping the bill on the 2017 Black Roses Tour, their first headlining tour in the United States. Lead singer Jaren Johnston tells Taste of Country that life on the road has been going well so far.
"It's been amazing," Johnston says about the tour that kicked off in January, selling out three of the first four shows. "We kind of felt like it was time to kind of get after it on our own and see what we've been doing and how it adds up to our own show, and it's been pretty impressive so far."
The Cadillac Three spent many days as an opening act for some of country's biggest names, including Florida Georgia Line, Jake Owen, Dierks Bentley and Eric Church, with Johnston saying the latter two really "embraced" the group and "introduced us to this world."
"They always treated us with such respect and helped us out in any way," Johnston says of the superstars. "I think we learned right off the top how to treat the people that are touring with [us]." He goes on to say the key to being a successful opener is to learn how to convert those fans.
"I think your idea there is to go out and still be better than the headliner and steal the crowd," he admits. "With that mindset for so many years, once we finally got into our headlining thing, it makes us very very aware of that situation...we're getting to finally play for those people that we stole," the singer says with a laugh.
In addition to hearing favorites like "The South," "Peace Love and Dixie" and "White Lightning" every night, fans also have the opportunity to see up and comers like Aubrie Sellers, Brent Cobb, Erik Dylan and more who are out on the road with the trio. "We picked artists that are creating their own buzz and not doing what other people are doing; they're kind of making their own ways," Johnston says of the opening acts.
Along with a high energy vibe and rugged rock-country sound, the singer-songwriter says fans can expect to see a show put together by three close friends who genuinely enjoy their time on stage. "It's three kids that grew up together in Nashville, Tenn., born and raised, doing what they love to do, and that comes out immediately when you walk in the room," the "White Lightning" singer says about the group's new tour. "It's a fun experience every night."
The Cadillac Three continue on the Black Roses Tour through March before wrapping up in Sacramento, Calif.
