One new sport has taken off over the last few years across America. According to a recent report, New York State ranks number one for it.

As the pickleball craze sweeps through the Capital Region, new courts are popping up. There is an enormous indoor and outdoor pickleball facility being built in Saratoga County and will open soon. It's called the Legacy Pickleball Club.

For years there has been a rule that protects referees and umpires from unruly coaches and players. Now a new rule implemented this year holds spectators and parents to the same standards. This means that fans can be tossed from games too.

The pickleball craze is making its way into Saratoga County where a huge indoor-outdoor facility is planned. What will this venue offer to those who love the game?

Pickleball is the sport that is sweeping the nation and now the Capital Region will get its first indoor club. It is almost ready to open in an old Kmart location.

The old Kmart building on Watervliet Shaker Road in Latham is becoming an entertainment and sports destination. The Scarlet Knife, an upscale restaurant just recently opened and more construction is on the way including a new sports complex.

Mechanicville is a special community. I know because I was born and raised there and have returned to raise my family in this amazing city. The Mechanicville boys' soccer team is now on the cusp of winning the first-ever state championship for any boys program in Mechanicville School history and the entire community is rooting for them.

It is hard to explain to "outsiders" what a special place Mechanicville is. Yes, the boys' soccer team is having an amazing season. Yes, they have already gone farther than any other boys' soccer team in program history. But it is deeper than that. It's different.

Back in May, it was announced that Christian Brothers Academy in Colonie was proposing to build a sports dome. This is the first for Capital Region schools. Now the plans are in motion and they are hoping to have it built and inflated by winter.

The new $4 million dollar sports fields that were proposed to be built next door to the Eagle Crest Golf won't happen. After months of back and forth between the owners, the Clifton Park Town Planning Board, and residents, it looks as if it will not be built. Well, not in that location anyway.

I will hear no other arguments on this topic. No athlete delivers for his country on the 4th of July more often than Joey Chestnut.
