Dense forest, rugged rock formations, streams and creatures can be found in the beautiful and vast 6 million acre Adirondack Mountains. Of all of it's natural and aesthetic beauty, what was captured on video by a family going for a hike on Thanksgiving Day, may be among it's most rare and most intriguing.

The Capital Region is a great place to live but sometimes we get stuck in our routines. We see the same places, eat the same food, and you may have missed some of the hidden things the area has to offer.

If you're like us, just starting out, here are two great places to go hiking and you don't even have to drive very far north.

The weather is finally getting warmer and you may want to hit some of the trails in the Adirondacks. Just be careful, the State Department of Environmental Conservation is sending out a warning to all hikers.

You've been wanting to try hiking.  You've been thinking about it. You just don't know how to get started, like, where do you go?

It took a few years to do it, but 82-year-old Delmar resident Jim Tschinkel completed his hike of the Appalachian Trail in September.
