Around 3:15 a.m. on Thursday morning, an East Greenbush Police officer was on patrol on Route 4 in the area of the Target store, when he noticed that there was a broken window at a nearby restaurant.

When the officer saw the broken window at Gene’s Fish Fry, he also saw someone running from the area of the restaurant. The officer took action and almost immediately caught the suspect, 24-year-old Kevin E. Popp, and took him into custody.

Upon further investigation of the break-in, it was discovered that Popp had allegedly attacked an ATM machine.

According to a press release from The East Greenbush Police Department, Popp was arraigned in East Greenbush Town Court and sent to the Rensselaer County Jail. Popp was charged with Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief and Larceny. Popp is scheduled to return to East Greenbush Town Court at a later date.
