Snow Can’t Cancel One Capital Region City’s Winter Festival
As what is probably the most significant snowfall of the season moves through the Capital Region so far, one local city says: Bring It On! Although it would be somewhat ironic if they did cancel because of the storm. But the city of Watervliet has had their Fire & Ice Winter Festival on the calendar for months now, and it will go on as scheduled tonight (Friday 2/25/22).
This event is for adults only, so it's open to those 21+. To answer your next question, yes, there will be alcohol. Wristbands are only $5. Several adult beverage stations will be on hand from Nine Pin Cider, Wired Coffee, Yankee Distillery and Thousand Islands Winery.
It takes place beginning at 5pm and goes until 10 at Hudson Shores Park. There will be food vendors, fire jugglers, ice carving, bonfires, chainsaw wood carving, and more.
Parking will be very limited, so the city has partnered with CDTA to offer trolley service at several points in the city to take festival goers to and from the park. Trolley service will run from 5-9pm. Stops include:
- The Senior Center at Broadway & 15th
- BRT Station at 19th St. and 2nd Ave.
- 3rd Ave and 8th St. near Laurel's Florals
- BRT Station near Gazebo Park at 3rd Ave. and 5th St.
Those not located on the trolly route are encouraged to carpool or use ride sharing services.
With the fresh snow on the ground, it sounds like a perfect night to enjoy a winter celebration outdoors. Temps won't be too bad either, high teens and low twenties for most of the evening.
More information can be found on the city's Winter Festival Facebook page.
