Amazon is now welcoming post smokers and edible eaters with open arms. Ok, maybe not while on the job, but if Amazon employees are using marijuana products on their own personal time, that's cool with them.

Amazon announced yesterday, Tuesday, June 1st, that they will no longer test potential employees for marijuana use. In the past, you had to pass a drug test that included screening for THC, the active psychotropic in marijuana that gives you that high feeling. Although they won't drug screen for marijuana anymore they will continue to screen for other illegal drugs.

Amazon will continue to do impairment screening "on the job" as well as do random screening for other drugs. Some jobs at Amazon will still require drug testing, like being an Amazon truck driver, but those screenings are required by the Department of Transportation on a Federal level.

This change is on the heels of a lawsuit by a New York man that said he was offered a job by Amazon, but that job offer was rescinded after he tested positive for marijuana. This was after New York City banned employers from testing job applicants for cannabis in 2020.

Now that weed is legal in so many states, including New York, Amazon has changed its policies nationwide and has even put its support behind the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act of 2021. That's basically the federal bill that would legalize marijuana and expunge the records of marijuana arrests on a federal level, like New York is doing on a state level.

The bottom line is this. If you're a marijuana user, you can now apply for a job at Amazon and not worry about failing the drug test because you smoke a little pot. However, if you're using some other illegal drugs...you're on your own.
