18-year-old Shenendehowa High School student Hunter Cronin has passed away this morning from injuries suffered in a car accident on Wood Road.

Hunter Cronin was involved in a one car accident just before 8 am.

This statement was released on the Shen website:

"We are deeply saddened to announce that a car accident tragically took the life of Shenendehowa High School senior Hunter Cronin while on his way to school this morning.

When we learned of the news, our Crisis Team, which is made up of administrators, psychologists, counselors and teachers, met to discuss plans to help students deal with the loss of their classmate. The senior class was gathered in the auditorium and told about the incident with crisis team members on hand to help those in need. For those who attend occupational education with Hunter, the crisis team at that school met with them to provide support.

We will continue to monitor student reaction and help students who may need more time to adjust to this tragedy. The teams will also provide additional counseling tomorrow at High School East and in the coming weeks for any students who may need support.

Children grieve in different ways. Even if your child has not had direct ties to Hunter, he/she may still be very upset by this event. We encourage you to provide the opportunity for your child to express his/her feelings openly. If your child expresses unusual or persistent concerns, please let us know.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and all those who knew, loved and/or taught this very special young man."

Please keep this family, community and school in your thoughts and prayers.
