Saratoga County Sheriff Issues Alert On Phone Scam

The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office issued the following alert on Facebook over the weekend, warning residents about ongoing reports of phone scams trying to swindle unsuspecting residents out of money:

We're getting reports again of people receiving phone calls where someone is impersonating members of our agency and requesting money. Please remember that the Sheriff's Office will NEVER contact you and request payment for something. PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON TO ANYONE WHO WOULD BENEFIT.

A good rule of thumb for any unsolicited phone call asking for money or any personal information is to DENY the request!

AARP says in 2024, phone calls were the 2nd most frequent way scams were disseminated, and you can protect yourself by being wary of unsolicited calls, calls where the timing is suspect, calls offering financial gain, and automated calls.

If you want to further research to determine if a call is fake or legitimate, reach back out to the official or supposed source to learn more and to alert them of the situation.
