Popular Late-Night Restaurant in Downtown Albany Closing its Doors

Life hasn't been easy on anyone in the restaurant industry over the last few years and that may be the understatement of the year.   A global pandemic, rising food costs, and lack of hired help have shelved many fine area establishments that had thrived in the past under different circumstances.

And for a popular late-night restaurant in Albany, its 15-year run in the Capital Region as kings of the calzone is coming to this weekend after an announcement on Instagram.

There is always a chance it’ll be back in a different location under different ownership at some point. But for now, enjoy your last week of Calzones for the foreseeable future.  -DPDoughAlbany Instagram

D.P. Dough, a popular late-night spot for giants calzones, wings, and warm, soft cookies, made its hey in the Capital Region about 15 years ago when it opened on Western Ave near the U Albany "student ghetto."

After many years there, D.P. Dough moved up a few blocks to Lark Street, and despite menu options being slightly different, they seemed - at times -  to be struggling for business surrounded by other popular pizza spots.

And they'll be missed - I will say, they did have some darn good calzones, though!

But unfortunately, here's the message they posted on their IG page over the weekend.

"The Albany location of DP Dough will be permanently closing its doors on Saturday, August 20th (one week from today). We’ve been through a lot together over the last 15 years. We appreciate all of our staff and customers that made this experience special.

There is always a chance it’ll be back in a different location under different ownership at some point. But for now, enjoy your last week of Calzones for the foreseeable future."
