The Federal Railroad Administration is giving Amtrak in New York State one million dollars in federal funding to help improve and expand service. The goal of these improvements is to enhance safety, decrease travel times, and improve reliability.
Which Amtrak Locations Are Doing Improvements?
The Adirondack Corridor or the Amtrak Adirondack service area which runs from New York City and Montreal will receive five hundred thousand dollars to undergo major improvements.
There will be a U.S. Customs Pre-Clearance Facility in Montreal and a second daily round-trip. There will also be necessary track and infrastructure upgrades. These fall under the umbrella of improving safety, reducing trip times, and enhancing reliability.
The Empire Corridor Project
Another five hundred thousand dollars will be given to The Amtrak Empire Service which connects New York City to Niagara Falls through Albany, Utica, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo.
According to News 10 ABC Congressman Paul Tonko said,
As a lifelong Amtrak passenger, I know firsthand how crucial our public rail system is to improving the everyday lives of New Yorkers. I’m thrilled to celebrate this critical infusion of funding that will enhance the safety, reliability, and speed of intercity rail service in our Capital Region and beyond.
The Federal Railroad Administration also gave funds to improve Amtrak in forty-three other states all to help rail expansion and to support passenger safety and reliability.
