New York Driver’s License Changes Coming, Hurry! [PHOTO]

When you travel, you usually show up to TSA with a ticket and your driver's license to get on a plane, but soon that's not going to be enough.

The New York Department of Motor Vehicles is encouraging New York State residents to get the REAL ID as soon as possible, according to WTEN. Beginning October 1, 2020, a standard New York State driver's license will not be accepted in airports without additional documentation, like a passport.

That is, unless you have a REAL ID. According to the NYS DMV, there is no additional charge for a REAL ID and to get one, you need: proof of identity, proof of social security number, proof of birth date, proof of US citizenship, and two different proofs of residency.

Over the summer, the DMV will be promoting the REAL ID and giving an educational tour about the new requirements to airports across the state. Lines for the REAL ID will grow as the deadline approaches so get it ASAP!
