Multiple People Assaulted at Altamont Fair, Mom and Son Arrested
A fun day at the fair with the family? Well, not this family. It was Sunday night, the final night of the 2022 Altamont Fair. The melee went down in, of all places, the parking area.
State Police were called to the scene when it was reported that a fight that broke out involving several people shortly after 8pm. They say 37 year old Angelique Anaya of Schenectady and her son, 19 year old Sacario Anaya of Rotterdam got out of their car and assaulted a number of people. Police say Angelique Anaya used a taser in one of the altercations.
Police did not say if the Anaya's knew the other people involved or what may have led up to the assaults. It's also not clear if the parties were entering or leaving the fair, but the mother and son left in handcuffs. The amount of people involved was not specified. No word on the extent of injuries suffered by the victims or if they were treated on the scene or taken to a nearby hospital.
Angelique Anaya is facing two counts of felony assault and one misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a weapon. Her son Sacario was charged with one count misdemeanor assault. Both were released and are expected to appear in court at a later date.
The Altamont Fair is one of the biggest annual summer attractions in the Capital Region, where thousands upon thousands come to experience the rides, fair food, agricultural history and live entertainment. This year's fair ran from August 16th through August 21st.
