Local Places Offer Free and Safe Viewing Of Solar Eclipse
No need for the the cereal box, duct tape, and youtube videos! If you're one of the many Capital Region residents that spent the weekend trying to make the proper "eclipse glasses" or are freaking out because you have no "safe" way to view today's scientific marvel, have no fear! Free and safe viewing is here.
News 10 ABC has created a useful and comprehensive list of places that will be offering up great views and safe glasses, many of which are free to the public!
Locations in the Capital Region to watch the Solar Eclipse
MiSci
Guests will be able to view the partial solar eclipse safely through telescopes or eclipse glasses. Live streams of the eclipse will be provided if there is inclement weather.
Cost: Free with admission ($10.50 adults, $7.50 kids 12 and under, $9 seniors 65+, free for MiSci members).
Time: 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Planetarium
Red Hook Community Viewing
Guests will be supplied glasses and instruction for safe viewing.
Cost: Free
Time: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Location: Lawn of Linden Avenue Middle School. An event will be held inside the Community Center if there is inclement weather.
Hirsch Observatory at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
The Hirsch Observatory will be open for public viewing of the partial solar eclipse. Students and volunteers will be on hand with eclipse glasses and telescopes.

Berkshire Athenaeum
Solar eclipse-themed activities will be held all day. The library will provide 100 pairs of free certified safe shades for eclipse viewing on a first-come, first-serve basis (one pair per family).

Schenectady Public Library
The library will be hosting an eclipse viewing event. Free ISO-certified eclipse viewing glasses will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a limit of four per family.

Niskayuna High School
A solar viewing party will be held at the Niskayuna High School’s soccer fields. Sun spotter scopes will be setup and eclipse shades will be available for purchase. Light refreshments will be provided.

Siena College
Souvenir ISO-approved viewing glasses will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Visitors should park in Lot F on the first base side of the baseball field.
