Update on Heartbreaking Discovery

A local kennel, which once promoted itself as a place to "provide the very best pet care for dogs, cats, and other pets as well," is now at the center of a criminal investigation following a heartbreaking discovery.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Anastasia’s Acres Dog Boarding in the Town of Argyle on Sunday, August 24, after receiving reports of multiple deceased animals.

Upon arrival, investigators found 21 dogs dead at the facility, while one surviving dog was rushed to an emergency clinic for treatment.

Despite the website’s promise of offering the “very best” in animal care, authorities say conditions inside the kennel told a much different story.

Investigators determined that the animals were not provided with proper water or ventilation, leading to their deaths.

Two Arrests Made

Following the investigation, the owners of the facility,  Robert Palulis, 48, and Anastasia A. Palulis, 38, both of Argyle, were arrested and charged with  22 counts of Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance.

The charges are Class A misdemeanors.

According to their now-defunct website, the Palulis family had operated the kennel on their three-acre property since 2020, advertising themselves as a trusted destination for pet boarding. Both Robert and Anastasia are now facing criminal charges as the case moves forward.

What To Do If You Witness Animal Cruelty

If you witness animal cruelty or believe an animal is in danger, report the matter immediately to local law enforcement and your local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or other humane enforcement agencies.

Over a decade ago, the Albany County Animal Abuser Registry was established by an act of the Albany County Legislature, known as Local Law K. The registry, hosted by the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, is a public service.

The following people seen on this list have been convicted of animal cruelty. While it's unclear exactly what they're guilty of, one thing is clear: They are not allowed to own, possess, reside in, have custody of, or intentionally engage in physical contact with any animal.

Period.
