A Hidden Cocktail Lounge Awaits In Rhinebeck’s Old Hardware Store
There is a speakeasy hidden in plain sight in the heart of the Hudson Valley. Looks like a great spot to sneak away and have a drink and conversation, if you can find the place.
First, what is a speakeasy? Back in the day, a speakeasy was an an illicit establishment where you could buy alcohol when it was illegal to sell. They were called speakeasy because those in the know were told to speak easy about these joints. Don't go flappin' your gums. Today a speakeasy is a cool retro-bar to share with only your closest friends.

Next time you find yourself in Rhinebeck, NY, look for the Rhinebeck Hardware Company on Market Street. It is easy to locate with their nameplate fastened above the door at 47 East Market Street.

Here's the thing, the original Rhinebeck Hardware Company closed in 2004. Once you enter the building, look for the staircase and go down. You will see a door with the name RhineCeller. Open it, and you have arrived to Rhinebeck's speakeasy.
According to their website, RhineCellar is a secluded cocktail lounge hidden in the basement of the historic Rhinebeck Hardware Company building in the village of Rhinebeck, offering carefully crafted cocktails, local beers, wines & snacks.
No passwords necessary for this unintentional speakeasy. Once you find the place, you’ll never want to leave.
