The Buffalo Bills are preparing for the start of free agency next month, as well as the 2024 NFL Draft.

The combine is several weeks away, with the Senior Bowl wrapping up in Mobile, Alabama. The coaches and front office will be busy for the next three months, trying to shape the roster for the upcoming season.

Wide receiver is one of the most important positions to upgrade for general manager Brandon Beane. Gabe Davis and Trent Sherfield are pending free agents, with Stefon Diggs, Khalil Shakir and Deonte Harty the only starting receivers returning.

Diggs is coming off another Pro Bowl campaign, with 160 targets and over 100 catches. The 30-year-old had a dip in production in the second half of the 2023 season, along with a key drop against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional round game.

Diggs was interviewed during Pro Bowl weekend by NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe. He asked Diggs about his relationship with Josh Allen and his future with the Bills.

Wolfe: "do you think you'll be a Bills next season?"

Diggs: "I don't know, I feel like with the money and all that type of stuff...I can't control all that."

"As far as the future, I don't have any surprises for you right now."

Diggs' contract is not favorable to a release or trade. There's a $27 million cap hit in 2024, with a $31 million dead cap penalty. There is a potential out in the contract in 2025, with would still produce a dead cap hit of $22 million.

The comments from Diggs, while not something to worry about necessarily, add more speculation to what has been nothing but speculation since the end of the 2022 season.

Ideally, the Bills want to add one or two receivers in the draft, to help the passing game and prepare for Diggs' eventual departure, since he will turn 31 years old during the 2024 season.
