It's crazy seeing this on the Times Union website this morning, one day after I literally had a conversation about this type of preventative safety with my 4-year-old son.  He was pulling clothes out of his own dresser yesterday and as he reached for the handles, it was a little stuck.  I watched in horror as the dresser (which is securely fastened to the wall) began to move a little bit.

I walked calmly over to him and reminded him to be gentle with the handles, because sometimes things can fall from the top of it.  It's so sad to read about this little girl inside the Hudson Valley classroom, who according to the Times Union, climbed on a chair to simply open a cabinet.  The cabinet fell on top of her and she lost her little life.

Police say the 8-year-old girl was Ruchy Friedrich and the school she was attending was in Kiras Joel, New York about 1 hour and 45 minutes south of Albany in the Hudson Valley.

It's an unfortunate reminder to all us.  Kids don't typically see accidents before they happen. Be sure to secure all cabinets, ledges, dressers, shelves etc and make sure to take the time to explain to kids that things can fall off them, and worse, on top of them.
