Jacob deGrom will finally make his return for the New York Mets tonight against the Washington Nationals.  It has been over a year since he has started with the Mets as he has had to overcome various injuries in the process.  I along with all of the Mets fans, and really all baseball fans, am very excited to watch him pitch tonight.  He will most likely be on some sort of a pitch count around roughly 75 pitches or so.  Manger Buck Showalter will keep a close eye on him.  You hope that everything goes smoothly for deGrom and that he can continue to pitch for the Mets for the remainder of the season.  Here is my quick take on this from The Times Union:

The New York Mets getting Jacob deGrom back on Tuesday at Washington is a game changer for the rest of the season. If deGrom can get through his first start in over a year, the Mets will have the best top of the rotation combination in baseball. The Mets still need to add a bat at the trading deadline, but if deGrom returns to old form, and Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt hold up their end, than the Mets will outlast the Braves and win the National League East.

I anticipate that deGrom will pitch very well tonight and has a relatively easy matchup against a Nationals lineup that just lost Juan Soto.  It is good for baseball that one of the best players is back pitching.
