Historic Schenectady Food Business Closed After Death
I'm a born and raised Schenectadian and that means my heart beats for the Italian food my city provides for the Capital Region. My heart hurts announcing that one of our historic businesses is closing.
The Times Union is reporting that long-standing Italian food market, Cappiello Foods, is closed indefinitely. Cappiello Foods, opened in 1921, has been closed since last month with the passing of Mary Cappiello, "family matriarch."
Though the news sounds grim, there's a slight hope that the business was open again the future. Apparently, the business is closed after some legal complications that occured after Cappiello's passing. Mary was a mainstay at the market for around 75 years and her death is felt through the Schenectady community.
Updates on the status of the business and any potential reopening will be found on their Facebook page. The word "indefinitely" usually means there are low hopes for reopening but my hope is that we'll be able to enjoy this piece of Schenectady Italian history again soon.
