The governor announced that he has made millions available to help New Yorkers that are struggling to pay their heating bill this winter. According to the New York State website, Governor Andrew Cuomo said that starting this week (Tuesday, February 18th), there is a way for households to apply for a second emergency benefit heat program.

Through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), if residents are in danger of running out of fuel or their service may be turned off and already have received HEAP assistance, there are additional monies available. Also, the deadline to apply for regular and emergency HEAP has been extended until April 24th. With this new assistance, households could get an additional $2200 in aid.

Eligibility is based on income, the household size, the primary heating source, and the ages of the members within the household. If there are kids under the age of six and adults older than sixty or permanently disabled residents. To apply click HERE.
