2005- Sammi Smith dies.   Known for the Grammy winning hit "Help Me Make It Through The Night" in 1970, she has modest success the rest of the decade.  At the age of 61, she dies of emphysema.

2005- Eddy Arnold, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Carter Family are honored with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards.  Janis Joplin, who has a hit with Kris Kristofferson's "Me and Bobbi McGee" is also honored.

1963- Buck Owens records "Act Naturally" at the Capitol Recording Studios in Hollywood. The song is written by Grand Ole Opry star Johnny Russell.

Birthdays:

Moe Bandy, 1944.  Moe becomes a favorite in Branson after scoring late 70s and 80s hits "I Cheated Me Right Out Of You" "Americana" "Till I'm Too Old To Die Young."  Together with Joe Stampley they win the 1980 CMA Vocal Duo of the Year thanks to the hit "Just Good Ol' Boys."
