Changes Coming To An Albany Landmark
When you’re traveling on Central Avenue in uptown Albany, you probably notice one of the most popular signs that has been there for as far back as any of us remember.
It’s the sign for the Westgate Shopping Center. You may not see it for a while. The landmark sign is being taken down to be refurbished.
The Westgate sign used to have a clock on it, but that was taken down when the sign was 'freshened up' back in the 1980s or 1990s.
The Saxton Sign Company of Schodack is doing the work on the iconic sign. According to the story from the Times Union, the neon lighting will be replaced by LED lighting, which will use much less electricity. A spokesperson stated that they’re hoping to have the new sign up and running just before Christmas
