We often take it for granted that there is reliable bus transportation for our kids. It has reached a critical low in Saratoga County and some of those students could be waiting for a school bus for more than an hour. Many school bus drivers are needed in Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Shenendehowa school districts. BHBL is hoping to hire ten school bus drivers and Shen has twenty openings. Drivers are in such demand, that the districts have upped the starting pay to $19 per hour.

At BHBL, they believe that people are intimidated by operating a school bus, so they started a program where applicants can take the bus for a spin. It's totally legal and you can get behind the wheel of the school bus and take it around the parking lot. In doing so, officials say it gives the driver a better sense of confidence and they realize that they can handle the bus.

Even though it is a part time job, this allows many stay at home moms the opportunity to make extra money and in turn helping out their own districts. You must be 21 years or older, and have a clean drivers license and clean criminal record. To start, drivers would be part-time substitutes.
