Here we go again: a brutal stretch in the retail sector continues, with another major retailer revealing nationwide closures, including 5 in the state of New York.

JOANNBig Lots, Advance Auto Parts, Forever 21, and Dollar General have all recently announced nationwide store closures. They join a long list of retailers that have already closed or will close brick-and-mortar stores in 2025.

It's hard to believe another retail chain is joining that list.

Walgreens To Close 500 Locations Nationwide, 5 In New York

According to The Mirror US, over 15,000 retail stores are set to shut down in the United States in 2025. You can now include Walgreens in that list.

The pharmacy and convenience store chain plans to close 500 locations in 2025, and 1,200 stores total in the next few years. The Mirror says The closures come in spite of a better-than-expected earnings report for 2024. While earnings are solid, Walgreens says about a quarter of its stores are not making a profit.

Which Walgreens Locations Will Close In New York?

The Mirror says the following locations across New York State will close:

  • 50 North Main Street - Ellenville
  • 153 Main Street - Owego
  • 792 West Main Street - Rochester
  • 5651 Whiskey Hill Road - Wolcott
  • 77 7th Avenue - New York City
