Annual Red Ribbon Campaign Underway
The New York State Thruway Authority in collaboration with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and New York State Police Troop T have kicked off the annual Red Ribbon Campaign where toll collectors will handout red ribbons at select toll facilities along the Thruway.
The foot-long ribbons are meant to displayed on vehicles to raise public awareness of the dangers of driving impaired. The ribbons were chosed as a symbol in 1986 by MADD to also encourage motorists to drive safely, soberly and buckled up at all times.
The ribbons are being distributed upon entry at Thruway plazas: 15 (Woodbury); 17 (Newburgh); 24 (Albany); B3 (Canaan, Mass Pike); (Syracuse, I-481); 36 (Watertown, Binghamton); 39 (Syracuse, I-690); 46 (Rochester, Corning); and 55 (Lackawanna). Ribbons are also be available at many Thruway service areas.
The Thruway Authority has posted MADD’s reminder to “Drive Safely, Stay Sober” on message signs for display along the entire Thruway system through the New Year. The New York State Police are also conducting specialized patrols and fixed checkpoints in undisclosed locations during the holiday season.
