Many of us travel for New Years Day, or at least New Years Eve. If you are planning to, here is what you need to know to get free coffee or tea.

Apparently this is an ongoing tradition that has been happening for the last 46 years. As much as many may bash New York, this is an awesome thing they do. If you do plan of going out tomorrow night for festivities and are taking the thruway home make a pit stop to take a break and a fresh cup of joe.

Each of the 27 rest areas will be taking part in this and will offer hot coffee and hot tea to motorists between 11 P.M. on New Years Eve straight through to 7 A.M. on New Years Day.

“Our longstanding New Year’s Eve tradition of providing free hot coffee and tea to our customers serves as a friendly reminder to motorists to take a break during their holiday travels,”

“The Thruway Authority urges motorists to stay alert to ensure the safety of themselves and their fellow drivers during the busy holiday season and year-round.”  said Thruway Authority Acting Executive Director Bill Finch

I know quite a few people who are going into the city for the festivities and the ball drop. If you also know people going down, share this with them!
