Hollywood star to host event in Upstate NY

One of Hollywood's most accomplished, albeit polarizing public figures, will be appearing in Upstate NY this fall for a film screening, award ceremony, and even a Q and A.

New York native Alec Baldwin has appeared in hundreds of movies and TV shows during his illustrious career, and this fall, Baldwin will host the Syracuse film festival's 20th-anniversary celebration.

Alec Baldwin and family

Baldwin and his famous brothers are no strangers to Upstate NY, and for years they've earned praise for their local charity efforts, including their late mother’s Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY.

“I love Syracuse,” Baldwin said in 2021. “People laugh at me. If I hadn’t gotten remarried and had (multiple) children with my wife (Hilaria), I know in my heart I would’ve moved to Syracuse... I love it there.” -NewYorkUpstate

According to NewYorkUpstate.com, the event will happen on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Mohegan Manor located at 58 Oswego St. in (ironically enough) Baldwinsville, NY

  • The event will feature a cocktail reception from 4-6:30 p.m. and a question-and-answer session with Baldwin from 6:30-7:30 p.m.,
  • Attendees will see a screening of the 1979 movie “Being There” starring Peter Sellers, Shirley MacLaine, and Melvyn Douglas.
  • At the end of the night, Baldwin will receive the Syracuse International Film Festival’s Sophia Award, which recognizes outstanding creative achievement in independent cinema.

Shooting incident on the movie set

Back in October of 2021, Baldwin, 65, was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter after fatally shooting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, in New Mexico while filming the movie "Rust".

Back in April, prosecutors said that the charges against Baldwin were dropped.
