Albany DGS ‘Heroes’ Prevent Woman from Taking her Own Life
Three men in Albany went to work on Wednesday morning ready to do the job they do each day for the county, but today felt "different." And it's a good thing they noticed.
When it comes to services that DGS provides for residents of Albany, there's nothing in the manual that mentions anything about being a hero, but today, we'll introduce you to three of them in this story.
DGS workers do a lot of the necessary - and sometimes mundane - jobs that we take for granted. Things like snow removal, garbage collection, hazardous waste collection, and street maintenance, that type of stuff.
But on Wednesday, according to a story on News Channel 13, three men who work for the City of Albany DGS are being hailed as heroes, and rightfully so.
The three men (pictured below) are the Albany DGS workers, credited with helping to save a woman in the midst of a life-and-death mental health crisis.
It happened on Wednesday morning - while doing their recycling, they saw something about a person that didn't look right, according to the report.
That's when according to News Channel 13, "they stopped to find a woman who was trying to take her own life, at a tree, with laces around her neck. They called for help and kept talking to her to keep her conscious."
The woman, according to the report, was dealing with a mental health issue and was taken to a hospital.
While the news station has not released the names of the three men, I don't think it will be long before their recognized by the city for their life-saving antics.
