Derek Jeter delivered his induction speech on Wednesday exactly how I thought he would. Jeter spent far less time on his own accomplishments and instead praised all those who helped get him to Cooperstown. At the top of the list was his family, and especially his parents who he said helped him prove the doubters wrong. When he took over the starting shortstop position in 1996, some were wondering if the Yankees had made the right choice. After 2,674 starts at SS, and impressive postseason numbers that resulted in five World Series Titles, fans fell in love with Jeter. He also made a strong point to thank Yankee fans and his teammates. He never dwelled on his own awesome resume, which ultimately made him into a Hall of Famer, one vote shy of a unanimously in 2020.

Derek Jeter will always have ties to Colonie, New York. Most all of the accolades bestowed upon him on Wednesday when he’s inducted into the Hall of Fame, will be for all his accomplishments in the Major Leagues and his career with the New York Yankees, and there are plenty of those to be told. But let us not forget that part of Jeter’s journey to Cooperstown took place at Heritage Park in Colonie in 1994, when was a member of the Class AA Albany Colonie Yankees. Who knew then, Jeter would put together a Hall of Fame Career. Heritage Park will be a mere mention, if any mention at all, on the National platforms, but here in Capital Region Jeter will always be a big part of the local landscape. Make sure to listen to our recap above!
