20 Year Old Albany Sports Bar Being Taken Over By New Sports Bar
A sports bar that was a staple in Albany for twenty years suddenly closed late last year and it looks like a new upscale sports bar will be opening soon.
Andy's Place Closed Suddenly
Andy's Place was located at 605 New Scotland Avenue in Albany for two decades. It was a neighborhood sports bar across from St. Peter's Hospital. It is in a building with a CVS. According to Andy's Place's Facebook page, there seemed to be a steady crowd and the last pictures were in November and December of 2021.
What Restaurant is Taking Over the Space?
Gabriel Moya of Albany will be the new owner of Restaurant 605. The name pays tribute to the address of the new eatery. According to the Times Union, Moya says the new restaurant will be a "neighborhood sports bar with global eats and big flavors".
On the Restaurant 605 website, they are encouraging patrons to check back in with the renovations and the grand opening event. They are hoping to open sometime this spring. The website also states that Restaurant 605 is a "family, sports, global kitchen" eatery.
The definition of a global kitchen is "bringing people together through the opportunity to learn about the world with food. It means opening the table to a conversation about our traditions, what's important to us, and where we come from".
It appears that Gabriel Moya is doing a lot of renovations to Andy's Place and if everything is on schedule, should be opening soon.
