Any average country music fan knows THE "Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney" story. It was a major story all over the country.

If you don't know the story. Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney were opening up for George Strait's Country Music Festival at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park in June 2000.

Kenny rode away with an Erie County Sheriff's deputy’s horse and then McGraw, who was then 33, and his manager allegedly attacked Erie County Sheriff’s Deputies who tried to stop Chesney. At least that's what the story is (depending on who you ask, it went down a different way). Chesney says that the daughter of a Sheriff said that he can get on and ride the horse. It was all fun and games and then it just turned ugly and it took almost a year to get settled.
All 3 of them; Kenny, Tim and his manager were arrested and released on bail.

  • Chesney was charged with disorderly conduct.
  • McGraw was charged with a felony for assaulting a police officer.

Almost a year later, May 23, 2001 a judge in Buffalo gave them the innocent verdict and fans lined up to get a glimpse of Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, who was there supporting her husband Tim. The trio stayed for a while and signed autographs for everyone there.

A few years back, I actually got the chance to talk to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and, at first, I was hesitant to ask, but I felt like it something everyone in Buffalo always wants to know about. I asked Tim about the famous story and I remember Faith jumping in and telling me that she was a wreck over it and was flying on a plane from Hawaii to Buffalo and she got her just in time and was sobbing when the judge read the innocent verdict.
Faith Hill was in Hawaii the day before singing the National Anthem for an event for the movie "Pearl Harbor".
