With all the talk this week about Tess Munster, the size 22 woman who just snagged a huge modeling gig and all the headlines when she became the "largest women ever to be signed to a major label",

I started thinking about the female body.  The "ideal" female body type has changed so much over time.  I would have done really well in the Renaissance era! ;)

I found this amazing video -

But the more I think about it, doesn't the phrase "ideal female body" in itself just perpetuate the stereotype that women have to be a certain way in order to be popular? Or loved?

It's true, photoshopped images of anorexic models, or models with fake boobs or butts, or whatever they're injecting these days, aren't healthy for our young girls to grow up trying to attain. But, is it better to have them trying to be a size 22?  Is it good for them to think that there is an "ideal" way that they should be?

How about using regular, civilian, gorgeous women as models? Too far fetched?

Also, where's the "Ideal Male Body Type" video?  Where are the male "plus size" models?  I'm not going to be able to solve this problem with one blog - or, ever.  But, I thought I'd throw it into the universe and see what you thought!
