While the greater Albany area can expect some rain later this week, parts of Upstate New York could see their first messy snow of the season.

Our mild stretch of weather has continued well into autumn in Upstate New York, and with temperatures again in the mid 50s to kick off the work week, we have not had an inkling we are on winter's doorstep.

That will change for some in Upstate New York later this week.

Let's start in the greater Albany area where we won't see snow this week, but can expect some much-needed rain.

The early part of the work-week will bring a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 50s according to WNYT News Channel 13.

That will be followed by a chance of rain Thursday through Sunday with temperatures in the 40s.

New Channel 13 says late precipitation will bring some snow to higher elevations in Upstate New York overnight Thursday.

The Weather Channel says Thursday into Friday could bring snow to the "...interior Northeast later in the week, particularly in the Appalachians." Their weather maps show higher elevations in the Catskills and Adirondacks getting some snow later this week.

For the Capital Region, it looks like our wait for snow will continue which would bring us past the typical average date of our first measurable snowfall in Albany.
