Some messy and slippery winter weather will kick off the weekend in areas of Upstate New York.

This time of year we are all hoping for more snow to add to the spirit of the holiday season, but unfortunately, this weekend will bring a less favorable and less joyous form of winter precipitation.

National Weather Service Issues Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Capital Region, mid-Hudson Valley, Taconics, Mohawk Valley, and western Massachusetts from 1 am to 1 pm Saturday, December 27, 2024.

NWS forecasters say we can expect freezing rain with accumulation of a glaze to a tenth of an inch and road conditions "...will likely become slick and hazardous." Make sure you take caution at home as well on your sidewalks and stairs!

News Channel 13 says high temperatures will reach 39 degrees on Saturday and temperatures will reach the 40s on Sunday with steady periods of rain. Rain is expected to continue into Monday with highs in the 50s.

The extended 7-day News Channel 13 First Warning Forecast is calling for milder temperatures through New Year's Eve with the potential for a few flakes late next week.
