Wilton’s “Grant Cottage” To Be Featured On The Travel Channel – Am I A Loser For Not Knowing It Was Here?
I think this is just so cool and I needed to share it with my fellow history and upstate New York lovers out there. I saw on the Saratogian website that a local landmark, Grant Cottage is going to be featured on the Travel Channel this Thursday at 7 pm.
Now I read this article about President Ulysses S. Grant and his struggles with losing his fortune and being penniless as he fought cancer right here in that cottage in Wilton where he died in 1885. I have to be honest, I didn't even know this cottage existed! Ugh.
The article it reminded me that there are just so many amazing historical places right here in our own back yard and I really need to spend more time visiting them. I remember when I was a kid going to the house of Sir William Johnson in Fort Johnson and learning about how people lived back when our country was born.
I think I have to add that to my list of historical places to visit right here in the Capital District. Is there anywhere else you think I should see? I'd love to hear your suggestions!
