Was Winter ’21-22 One of Albany’s Least Snowy On Record?
Reliving this past winter will give you more appreciation of this stretch of 80-degree days we are having!
I know. As you fire up your air conditioner to cool off the 2nd floor of your house this week snow and winter are the last things you have in mind. Or maybe this mild weather is the continutation of what seemed like a mild winter, at least in the snow department.
While we certainly got some snow this winter, it just seemed a little weaker than normal. And we also never got hit with the one big yearly storm that typically brings in FEET of snow. Well, as it turns it, it was one of less snowy winters we have had since the National Weather Service started keeping records back in the winter of 1884-1885
How Much Snow Did Albany Get This Winter?
According to the National Weather Service, all told we got 36.4 total inches of snowfall in Albany this year which is almost 2 feet below our normal average of 59.2 inches! We never had a month either where we got a ton of snow, with February getting the most accumulation with 10.7 inches.
That 36.4 inches of snowfall, while not one of our top 10 all-time least snowy in Albany, made Winter 2021-2021 the 21st least snowy winter on record in Albany. So in the almost 140 years, they have been keeping records, this winter was definitely on the much weaker end of the snow spectrum..
